We first went to Chile with CMS in 1992, invited to work with the Anglican church in Valdivia with a special focus on University Student Ministry in conjuction with GBU (University Bible Group). Before long we were incorporated into the GBU Staff team.

We have now completed 10 years sharing our time between GBU (70%) and the local Anglican church (30%). We encourage groups in a number of southern Universities through bible teaching and training. Within the church we work with youth, and train leaders through theological education.

In 1997 the Lord moved us, together with some other families, to begin a new church in a growing housing area. This was given the blessing of the bishop and local leaders. The church, named San Marco, has enjoyed slow but steady growth. It has an average attendance of 40 adults and 20 children. The congregation recently moved from a school to their own property. In June 2002 San Marcos was formally received by the bishop as a fully fledged church, and in November 2002 Graeme was ordained and inducted as it's first pastor.

Upon our return to Chile we will resume leadership of the church, dedicating our time to church growth and forming new leaders. We're excited that a new Anglican Training College begins in Chile next year. One of our congregational members will be entering as an ordination candidate. It's our hope to see a Chilean pastor leading the church within four years.

Serving with CMS in Valdivia, Chile

We will continue with GBU through, pastoral care, leadership training coordination and Bible studies. Our continuing ministry in Valdivia depends entirely upon God's grace and upon your commitment to us in prayer and financial support. We are very conscious of the way God has answered prayer for us.

It hasn't been easy. Will you consider committing to pray for us and for your brothers and sisters in Chile?

God bless,
Graeme & Jane Peters
